Range Officers are responsible to the Range Captain, Deputy Range Captain or senior RO appointed by the Range Captain for the safe conduct & control of all shooting events managed by SSAA Mudgee & District Branch Inc. Please note: Pistol Discipline is a sub-committee of the Branch and is not a seperate club.


Range Rules:
- Range Officers have total control over range activities
- Shooters must wear ear & eye protection & appropriate footwear on firing line
- Shooting must not commence until  RED FLAG is located at the firing line.
- Handling of firearms is not permitted when the range is closed (GREEN FLAG)
- Firearms are to be removed from the vehicle in a safe condition, carried muzzle in the air.
- Firearms must not be removed from the firing line until cleared by the range officer.

Notes:

Even if not listed in this calandar, the ranges May BE OPENED by qualified Range Officers FOR PRACTICE between the hours of 0800 – 2200 on Saturdays, Sundays, Public Holidays & Wednesdays between the hours of 1200 - 2200.

Range 1 Rifle, Pistol & Shotgun – Metallic template to 400m, Big Game Rifle template to 7000ft/lb, hard target BGR.
Range 2 Rifle, Shotgun & Pistol – Soft targets only to 300m, Big Game Rilfe template to 8600ft/lb, soft target BGR.
Shotgun Range Shotguns Only (shot no larger than No.6) 5 Stand & Field layouts
Silhouette Range Pistol & Shotgun -
Metallic template to 500m, (see note below regarding centrefire rifle use)
Cudgegong Range Pistol only, soft/card targets, 25 & 50m [templated for hard target .44Mag but only utilised for card at this time].


Camping is allowed at Shotgun Range, Range 1 and Range 2 designated areas, along with the surrounds at the Silhouette Range. Camping is generally permitted one day prior & one day post major Competition Events or as otherwise advertised, provided the Host Club has on site, a responsible person 'Designated' to be responsible for the control of range and other activities, clean up & secure the Complex.

General Practice shoots (conducted on the 4th Wednesday of each month) are open to everyone.

Unlicensed people interested in trying shooting are welcome to attend and will have an opportunity to shoot under the authority of a P650 form, in accordance with section 6B(1)(a) of the Firearms Act 1996. A variety of targets will be available for both handgun and rifle use; club pistols will be available for those wishing to try pistol shooting. Families welcome!

 

As a result of the 26th October 2017 range inspection by NSW Firearms Registry, the Silhouette range is closed for centrefire rifle shooting at this time, pistol and Rimfire Rifle is still ok.
Any events involving centrefire rifles on the Silhouette range = cancelled until further notice.

 SSAA Combined Service Discipline has been moved from 4th weekend of the month to 3rd weekend, for operational Range Officers availibility.

All SSAA Matchs and Events are conducted under Australian National Discipline Rule Books, these Discipline Rule Books have been approved by NSW Firearms Registry. Under the Firearms Act and Regulations we MUST follow those Rule Books explicitly to comply with NSW law and Nationally specified matchs.
